LEAFS HOUSE

Somewhere ahead, the house rises like a strange obelisk — a ziggurat of ancient kings, who built (and dreamed their building would last to the end of days). They were right — the house remains, though the kings are gone, gone, gone down into the land of the red sun.

But I have gotten ahead of myself, and you don’t know anything yet. You don’t know about the land of the red sun, or the knights of the primrose. No-one has sung you the song of Helm of the High Horn, or the lay of Konnunganari. Why, you haven’t even heard the tale of your own capture, how the fairy-queen traded you for a mortal babe. You are a newcomer to this place — but don’t worry. There will be time enough for explanations once we’ve weathered the present discomfort. And as for the strange house on the horizon, with the great bush behind it and all those grim strange windows... Hm, you don’t need to worry about all that right now. Leaf built it, and though he is not the most reliable of hosts at least he knows the laws of hospitality. And if he is fey he is only so fey as any who live too long in Elfland, as he has. No, I think if you reach the house you will find it hospitable — assuming you reach it. I think, well — I think you will.

Welcome to the Leafs House, a house on the border between this world and Fairy — an experiment somewhere between a solo TTRPG and a work of interactive fiction. The Leafs House is a strange and lonely place, now mostly abandoned — though there are signs someone lived here, once — and it is your job to explore it and see what you will find. 

There are, at the moment, 54 pages (numbered up to 1001), six hidden games, one heavy-handed commentary on the fascist element of nostalgia, dozens of details that will mean nothing to anybody but me, and one fairy-curse. This is just the first chapter — the Leafs House will grow.

There are also lots of typos. I'll try to fix them when I can.

"a short walk in faerie, a prelude" — my submission for the reliquary jam, s1e10 jam, which now forms the introduction to this game, is still available (as part of the Leafs House). There's also a "classic" version with just short walk on its own. At this point, the Leafs House is mostly available only to those who bought short walk or support me at the "friend of the farm" tier or higher on my patreon. There might be another way to find it? But you'll have to go looking for that yourself.
