Queen of the Moon is a game about young people in the aftermath of something special: a hunt for buried treasure, maybe, or plans to run away together to California — or was it just a long and boring summer spent smoking in the woods and discovering that being a boy doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to kiss boys, and that being a girl doesn’t mean you have to be a girl?

Queen of the Moon is a game about what happens to those secret places we build together: at summer camp or at the bus stop or in the basement of our best friend’s house. We discovered something special there. Now, school is starting, and things are about to get much, much worse.

Queen of the Moon gives us first kisses and long walks home, stolen cigarettes, secret rituals, suspicious grownups, hidden kingdoms, and a terrible, beautiful world which wants nothing more than to hold us forever in its perfect hands, always asking:

What do we do next?

This sounds really cool. What does it mean by intimate play btw? I've never heard that term

thanks! both intimate play and subsocietal individualization are terms of my own (although others have probably used similar one in the past) and plays on typical child development language like "individuation" or "parallel play." i'm using them here to talk about the private (intimate) lives (and societies) of children, beyond adult observation.

Beautifully written, piercingly insightful, painfully true. One of those rare RPGs that's not just the framework for a game, but also worth reading for its own sake.

this is truly so kind 💜 thank you so much
